Throughout the past year we have been presenting different music radio programs, talks radio programs, and video documentaries.
All of the artists in our nest are called blackbirds.
In the music department, blackbirds feature a wide variety of different formats of music sets and music and broadcasting programs.
All of our body of work is found on our mixcloud account …….
We all shine in our own way , but one bird that has been shining immensely is
DJ Sudeep K
His Alt Gems program that he features weekly, is the best in different forms of alternative.
Not only is Dj Sudeep K celebrating his 45th musical program,
But once again he managed to make number one nationally on
the Canadian Mixcloud Charts music sharing platform.
In honour of his 45th show he decided to put something a little bit extra together…
A video mix.
I managed to get a little bit of a background from our blackbird
WHAT GOT YOU INTO MUSIC ?
Music was always around my house.
My mom and dad both had an extensive collection of reels to reels records and tapes. My older siblings also had separate collections where you could drift from room to room and hear different sounds whether it was classic, jazz, rock, rnb, new wave, punk, it was all played.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST LP YOU BOUGHT ?
The first lp I ask to have bought for me was the police synchronicity. I played it on my Personal Peter Pan record player that was a hand me down from a older cousin it was the first non Disneyland lp to hit the deck ( and some of those Disneyland records were badas) like disco mickey mouse or the intro to orchestras, Fantasia, not to mention those books that you had to turn the page when tinker bell made the sound with her wand, oh and sesamestreet records fk they had some funky breaks on them
Music is within my blood all my memories are tied to songs in the atmosphere weather it’s a meal with family’s, dancing in clubs or walking in the mall. From the Walkman generation we were the first to escape any time anywhere from what was happening just by putting on our headphones and pressing play on whatever tape is in the deck.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CONCERT ?
I’ve been to too many amazing concerts but the most memorable/stand out would be the two days Nine Inch Nails took over the koolhause and both days were completely different.
Lots of my associates only bought tickets for one of the two days I was fortunate to have been on the guest list so it didn’t matter to me it was the middle of the week and I had nowhere else to be.
I felt like Trent did the second show just for me it was all slower songs
They even had a real baby grand piano on stage and he did something I can never have by himself for a few minutes then as the songs layers grew members of the band came back on to the stage absolutely brilliant.
HOW HAS THE PANDEMIC AFFECTED YOU / WHAT DO YOU WANT WHEN IT'S OVER ?
This pandemic isn’t affecting me as I was already a recluse who only goes out to record shops.
All my friends have always been slightly virtual as they live around the world. What I’m looking forward to is having people dancing again in safe spaces.
I’d like to invoke a no assholes allowed
cuz now it’s a privilege to go out not your right.
For someone to come to my event/venue you have to be on the same vibe.
All love
I love sharing music. I'm happy I get to do it for a living.
I’m not sure what I would do if music ceased to exist. I’d be lost for sure
