Let’s be real, finding a solid meal in this city for under a tenner is getting like finding a parking spot on King Street: nearly impossible.

I’ve pounded the pavement from Queen West to Kensington to find the hidden gems that haven't sold out to the gentrification machine yet.
If you’ve got ten bucks in your pocket, here is where you can still eat like a human being:
East End Pie & Mash (1031 Gerrard St E)
Whether you're an EastEnder or like to eat like one while you're watching Coronation Street ,these guys got the best of the Brits for the best bang in the buck. It's the bollocks
Banh Mi Nguyen Huong (Spadina): A legendary, family-run joint where a well-seasoned sub is still under five dollars. Just get there before 7 PM.
Rasta Pasta (Kensington): Massive Jamaican flavor for right around that ten-dollar mark. The Jamaican Mi Crazy Chicken is the play here.
Fresca Pizza (College St): They brush the crust with legendary garlic oil and serve massive slices for five bucks. No nonsense, just good fuel.
El Furniture Warehouse (Queen West): A proper sit-down spot where almost every item on the menu is under ten dollars.
Manpuku (Village by the Grange): A hidden noodle house delivering authentic Japanese comfort food for under ten bucks.
Seven Lives (Kensington): Massive Baja-style tacos for well under ten dollars a pop. The fish taco is a Toronto institution.
Bearing in mind this is if you even have $10 to spare, and guess what, probably one in three people around you that you know don't. They're just too embarrassed to say it, or living beyond their means, or running a debt card up like there's no tomorrow.
But guess what, I have the receipts. Toronto's broke. Better yet, it's unlivable.
You're going to find out tomorrow just exactly what's going on and how it affects you whether you know it or not.
We are in the red.
